Good Leads, Then a Pause.

Twelve of the first thirteen conversations were the right people. Then the volume stalled, and I stopped to find out why.

The Offer

A UAE business-setup consultancy wanted US business owners who were thinking about a company in Dubai. The offer was concrete: a UAE business licence, a business bank account and a website, with packages from $3,999 and a free consultation on WhatsApp. The ads ran in Houston first, under one line: “Launch your UAE business from Houston.”

The Setup

I kept the first campaign deliberately simple: one creative, one clear price, and a WhatsApp chat as the ask. The first job was to collect signal, not to scale. A $3,999 decision starts with a question, so the ad opened a conversation instead of a form.

The First Read

By 10 June the campaign had brought 13 conversations for AED 572, about AED 44 each. I read them. All but one were the right people, asking how the process works. Men aged 35–44 started 7 of the 13, at about AED 29 each.

The Pause

The leads were right, but the campaign was “showing signs of not scaling”, as I told the team at the time. So I paused it and redesigned the structure before spending more, instead of raising the budget on a campaign that was flattening.

A narrower second round brought 11 more conversations at about AED 44. A third round, mixing audiences, brought 1. Across broad and narrow audiences, the cost per conversation stayed between AED 40 and 49.

What the Numbers Said

Targeting wasn’t the limit. With one creative running the whole time, changing the audience barely moved the cost. The next lever was the message: new angles for the same buyer, tested one at a time.

Beyond the Ads

  • A market plan, narrowed. For the firm’s European expansion idea, I cut the plan down to two countries, Poland and Croatia, and one cross-border-commerce niche, within an AED 5–7k monthly budget. I framed it as a second business base, not a tax escape. The client accepted it.
  • A new audience. In September I built golden-visa ads for investors in Pakistan: two offers for the client to choose between, with one change per ad so every test would mean something.
